Charlotte's Web

Charlottes Web is a story about friendship, adventure, life and death, trust and the passing of Time. It is funny, serious and sad. It can make you laugh and cry. I think this is a good book for middle aged children to read. It is also a good book to read to young children. Many adults would enjoy “Charlotte’s Web”. I did.The story begins with a young girl, Fern, saving arunt pig from being killed. She names him Wilbur. When Wilbur is five weeks old, Fern’s dad said Wilbur had to be sold. Fern sells the pig to her Uncle Homer Zuckerman, who lives just down the road from Fern’s family. Fern can go see Wilbur every day. Wilbur gets to know the other animals, but he has a special friendship with a spider named Charlotte that lives in the Zuckerman’s barn.Charlotte spins words into her web about Wilbur that saves him from being slaughtered. The story tells of Charlotte and Wilbur’s friendship, also their relationship to all the animals in Zuckerman’s barn. The story will tell you how and why Charlotte dies alone, also, how three of her daughters stay in the old barn as friends to Wilbur and what happened to the rest of her children. It is not often someone comes alone that is a true friend. Charlotte definitely was a special true friend to Wilbur.

Dean Koontz

I read two novels by the author Dean Koontz. The first novel “INTENSITY” scared me to death. This story is thrilling and scary from start to finish. The main character in the story thinks that no harm can ever come to him and that no one will ever catch him. He is so sure of himself and his ideas of what’s right and wrong. His name is Edgler Foreman Vess. All through the story Vess makes up words from the letters in his name. The words are like rage, anger, fear and so on. Your get my point. This man has no conscience at all. The story kept me turning to next page as fast as I could. The heroine in the story is an amazing character also. She is willing to stop him any way she can.

The second book by Dean Koontz is “Life Expectancy.” This book is lighter reading than the first one. The main character in this novel has a rough way to go. His name is Jimmy Took. On the night he was born, his grandfather made some predictions about his future. None of them good. All came true in one form or another. I kept my nose in this book for three and a half hours just to see if poor Jimmy’s life would ever get better. It does get better and you can’t help but be happy for him.

Abram’ Daughters
A series by Beverly Lewis

Beverly Lewis has written over seventy books for adults and children. A lot of her books are are based on The Heritage of Lancaster County, in Pennsylvania. She is of Pennsylvania Dutch descent. Beverly Lewis as a schoolteacher and an accomplished musician
This is a series of books about Abram’s Daughters. They are an Amish family. At the start of the series there are four sisters and these are difficult times that they had in Gobbler’s Knob.
The first book of the Series is called The Covenant. The Covenant opens at the ending of WWII and continuing into the Fifties. Sadie loses her innocence to a handsome English boy and she draws her sister into apart that sends Leah’s own dreams spinning out of control.
The second book is named The Betrayal, the stories of Leah and Sadie Ebersol shows their very different choices with consequences. The choices will leave them miles apart, both physically and emotionally. Separation is never easy when you’re in love. It is a dramatic tale of forgiveness and hope. This book will capture your heart.
I have enjoyed reading this series of books. By reading the books I have learned about some of the way the Amish believe. The books have an historical feel since the Amish continue to live much as they did in the 18th century. If you read the first one of series you will continue reading them all.
